American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson today issued the following statement on Canada’s decision to finalize regulations banning sales of new gasoline, diesel, flex fuel and traditional hybrid vehicles nationwide by 2035:
“It is a mistake for Canada to follow one of California's most extreme, infeasible and costly policies—banning sales of new gasoline, diesel, flex fuel and traditional hybrid vehicles by 2035. The very idea of mandating electric vehicles in a country known for its severe winters and wilderness is unwise and promises to raise costs for families while simultaneously increasing Canada’s dependence on China. Families and individuals, not government regulators, should be the ones setting the pace for technological change and deciding what types of cars and trucks meet their unique needs and budgets.”
