WASHINGTON, D.C. — American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson issued the following statement on the Day 1 actions taken by the Trump-Vance administration to protect consumer choice and end gas car ban policies across the United States:

“President Trump promised to end to gas car bans and vehicle mandates on day 1 of his new administration, and we are pleased to see that work already underway. Thank you, President Trump.

“Leadership from the Trump-Vance administration is critical to protecting consumer choice and stopping federal and state efforts to phase out and effectively ban internal combustion engine vehicles and American-made liquid fuels. The most durable solutions, however, require regulatory and legislative action. We look forward to working with the administration and Congress on policies that protect consumer choice, further improve vehicle and fuel efficiency, and advance U.S. energy security.” – Chet Thompson, AFPM President and CEO

The Trump-Vance administration’s day 1 actions kickstart a longer process of revising federal rulemakings and reviewing EPA’s lame-duck decision to grant California—and, by extension, any other state—a federal waiver to ban sales of new gas cars and trucks. Nationally, 70% of Americans oppose gas car ban and vehicle mandate policies.

While these policy pathways are pursued, AFPM remains a litigant in court cases over California’s Advanced Clean Cars I electric vehicle sales mandate and EPA’s light, medium and heavy-duty vehicle tailpipe emissions standards.
