WASHINGTON, D.C. — As policymakers consider a potential gas tax holiday to lower costs at the pump, American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson issued the following statement, underscoring that reforming the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) would deliver significantly greater and more durable savings for American consumers:
“As the administration works to lower energy costs for consumers, AFPM urges the President, Secretary Wright and Administrator Zeldin to revisit the Renewable Fuel Standard, which today is adding more than 30-cents per gallon to the cost of producing gasoline and diesel here in the United States. The recently finalized RFS is a blight on this administration’s affordability agenda. It is the most expensive regulation of the President’s second term by a factor of 10.
“Aligning RFS mandates with actual gasoline consumption and the domestic availability of advanced biofuels and feedstocks would save Americans billions of dollars on fuel this year alone — far more than any gas tax holiday.”
