Refiners have been pursuing the use of more atypical feeds to their olefin oligomerization units for various reasons. Units have historically operated on FCC LPG cuts, but an interest to process Coker LPGs or even heavier FCC olefins have begun.

For clarity, a common definition of “in-line blending” is required. Marathon defines in-line blending as a system that pumps multiple blend components from individual tanks, which are typically “live” (either receiving or capable of receiving components from a process unit or pipeline delivery) into a header. The header generally contains static mixing to ensure homogeneity of the blend.

In March 2006, in our continuing effort to support safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operation, we announced our plans to apply for a permit to independently initiate an alkylation process improvement project in our Philadelphia HF alkylation unit.

METKA (Sunoco, Inc.) Sunoco has experienced significant shortages of KOH in both our northeast and mid-continent refinery complexes. This appears to be a universal issue. In addition, a primary supplier to the northeast claimed force majeure earlier this year.
