American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) is a dynamic trade association representing high-tech American manufacturers of virtually the entire U.S. supply of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, other fuels, and home heating oil, as well as the petrochemicals used as building blocks for thousands of vital products in daily life, from paints to plastics, space suits to solar panels, and medicines to mobile phones. As a national trade association representing American refineries and petrochemical companies, AFPM brings together staff, members, affiliates, and thought leaders at major conventions and smaller gatherings, both virtual and in-person, throughout the year.

As we continue to grow and expand our reach, we are excited to announce an opening for a Specialist, Technical Programs and Committees. This individual assists in the development, planning, and execution of the webinar program and The Summit, AFPM’s largest technical conference. Also, oversees the Hydroprocessing and Sustainability Technology Committees.
Responsibilities
- Develops effective meeting agendas and business communications, and records accurate meeting minutes for Hydroprocessing and Sustainability Technology Committees.
- Partners with Committees and staff to develop content, manage conference speakers, and organize program information for The Summit.
- Manage the webinar program including content, scheduling, marketing emails, speakers, day of logistics, attendee metrics, and posting webinars to appropriate systems.
- Publishes content to the appropriate systems, QA database or AFPM Online store.
- Manages the QA Database and the online publication systems.
- Provides research and supports departmental projects, conferences, and other initiatives.
- Conducts periodic outreach and marketing of programs, conferences and webinars to members. Gathers metrics on outreach and provides recommendations for improvement.
- Communicates and collaborates with AFPM colleagues, within and outside the department, to ensure program and meeting quality standards and process consistency are maintained.
- Demonstrates initiative in providing regular input and recommendations regarding increasing member participation and making efficiency improvements for assigned programs and processes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years related experience
- Previous experience trade association with direct member contact and communication preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
- Demonstrates professionalism, emotional management and reliability in all activities, conversations, and interactions.
- Strong customer service orientation required to ensure member expectations are met or exceeded.
- Ability to work in collaborative team environment defined by a culture of excellence, mutual support, open and honest feedback, and goal achievement.
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time to attend assigned conferences and AFPM events.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
