WASHINGTON, D.C. – Statement by American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President Chet Thompson on Congress’ passage of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act:
"Although not perfect, TSCA reform will modernize our nation's primary law that regulates chemicals in commerce, allowing petrochemical manufacturers to continue making life saving and enhancing devices and medicines in an environmentally and consumer friendly manner. While AFPM had hoped that some important issues were more fully addressed, such as stronger federal preemption provisions; the cap on industry-initiated risk evaluations; and handling of persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic chemicals; we support this carefully crafted, bipartisan compromise."
