WASHINGTON, D.C. — American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson issued the following statement on H.R. 4776, the Standardizing Permitting & Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act, up for consideration this week in the House of Representatives:

“For Americans to be able to reap the benefits of affordable liquid fuels and petrochemicals, they first need to be able to access those products. And for much of the country, access depends on pipelines.

“Too often, critical pipeline projects get delayed in the federal review process, and when this happens, it doesn’t just kill job opportunities for Americans, it also undercuts our energy security and has a chilling effect on energy partnerships and investment. The SPEED Act will reform the parts of NEPA others have misused to stymie infrastructure and will help more of our country benefit from connectivity to American-made fuels and energy products. AFPM urges support for this bipartisan legislation, and we offer our sincere thanks to Chairman Westerman and the House Natural Resources Committee for making permitting reform a priority.”
