The U.S. refining and petrochemical industries, in partnership with the government, have taken extraordinary steps to ensure refineries and petrochemical facilities are safe from increasing cyber threats.

Our industries develop and adhere to numerous standards, technologies, controls, strategies and processes to manage cybersecurity threats. We also work with other entities such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and have established public-private partnerships with the federal government to advance cybersecurity mitigation and response measures. Examples of these partnerships include Linking the Oil and Gas Industry to Improve Cybersecurity (LOGIIC), Cyber Information Sharing and Collaboration Program (CISP), Industrial Control Systems Joint Working Group (ICSJWG) and Center for Information Security (CIS).

AFPM believes cybersecurity legislation should not impose mandatory criteria on the private sector nor duplicate existing requirements already being implemented. We support our member companies freely sharing information with the government and other private companies, in a timely manner and within a secure environment.
